The Victorian Style

Les Tournages du Nord produces ornamentation in various architectural styles, but we are particularly known for the Victorian style. Here is a brief explanation.

The word "Victorian" comes from "Victoria", the name of the reigning queen of Great Britain, from 1837 to 1901. She is the last monarch to have personally marked political life. She restored monarchistic prestige; the Victorian period is recognized as being the height of British power. A new architectural style came into being at this time, as a kind of rebellion against classic architectural forms. During the second half of the 19th century, a great deal of construction took place in accordance with the new Victorian style.

The best example of this in North America, is found in San Francisco. The houses are called the "Painted Ladies". With their particular colours and forms, such a concentration of them has brought an undeniable architectural charm to this city.
